Boca Juniors vs Unión de Santa Fe: Result and Context

Boca delivered a statement win on Matchday 11. Rodolfo Arruabarrena’s squad extended its unbeaten run to 16 matches.

That streak equals the best run of the Riquelme era. Consequently, the Xeneize now sits second in Zone A. Friday opened the eleventh round with three matches, and Boca’s result stood out. Sixteen games without defeat are a serious statement in Argentina’s crowded calendar. Arruabarrena has built a side that rarely loses.

Instituto de Córdoba still leads with 25 points. Indeed, Instituto hammered Independiente 4-1 away in Avellaneda that same night. Therefore, Boca and Vélez Sarsfield both trail the leaders by five points. Besides, Boca already holds semifinal spots in the Copa Sudamericana and Copa Argentina.

In addition, the win lifted Boca to second in the annual table. Independiente Rivadavia of Mendoza leads that standings by only two points.

Di Lollo Header Breaks the Deadlock

Lautaro Di Lollo delivered the opening blow in the 22nd minute. His header lit up La Bombonera and gave Boca an early platform. Still, one goal rarely feels safe in Argentine football. As a result, Boca carried a slim 1-0 lead into the second half.

At the same time, Unión searched for an equalizer without finding it. For this reason, every attack after the break mattered, and another goal would settle the nerves.

Besides, an early lead feeds the crowd at La Bombonera. The stands pushed the team forward, and Boca used that energy well.

Enner Valencia Boca Juniors Impact off the Bench

Arruabarrena turned to his bench in the 60th minute. Enner Valencia entered and walked into a roaring ovation. The Ecuador captain had earned that welcome with his recent Copa Argentina display. Moreover, his task was simple to give Boca’s attack a different dynamic. He stayed on the pitch through the final stages of the rout.

Next, the round continues Saturday with four matches, including Defensa y Justicia against San Lorenzo. Four more games follow on Sunday.

Why Boca Won: Flores, Control and Depth

Flores became the match winner at just 19 years old. He scored the first brace of his career. Moreover, he did it two days after debuting for Argentina in a 4-0 rout of Bolivia. Therefore, his week already feels like a dream.

Besides, the attacking midfielder now carries real expectations. After this display, nobody will ignore his name in Zone A. Boca also kept a clean sheet, which keeps the 16 game unbeaten run alive. Depth matters too, and the Enner Valencia Boca Juniors option gives Arruabarrena a veteran striker off the bench.

In fact, Di Lollo’s goal and Flores’ double show scoring spread across the squad. As a result, opponents cannot focus on one threat.
