Enner Valencia scores as Boca draw with Instituto

Enner Valencia needed one loose ball to bring Boca Juniors back into the match. His finish punished a goalkeeper error during Friday’s 2–2 draw against Instituto de Córdoba.

However, the Ecuadorian’s goal delivered only the first of two equalizers in Córdoba. Another setback followed after halftime, before a substitute rescued a point.

Boca recover twice in Córdoba

Friday’s meeting belonged to matchday 12 of the Argentine Clausura at the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium. Neither side managed to turn its attacking moments into a winning advantage.

Instituto struck first through Fernando Alarcón, leaving Boca chasing the game early. However, Valencia answered in the 23rd minute, restoring parity before the interval.

Jonathan Galván then put the hosts ahead again early in the second half. Miguel Merentiel supplied Boca’s second equalizer in the 56th minute.

Therefore, the result tells a story of recovery rather than dominance. Boca found answers inside the penalty area, but twice allowed Instituto to establish the lead.

Enner Valencia punishes Ledesma’s handling error

Marcos Ledesma attempted to gather a high ball, but contact with a teammate disrupted his landing. Possession escaped him, leaving the ball available inside the penalty area.

Instead of hesitating, Valencia reacted and finished the opportunity before Instituto could recover. It was Boca’s opening goal, although it did not open the match.

Moreover, the finish illustrates a striker’s responsibility when an opponent loses control. Staying involved until possession settles can matter as much as producing a spectacular shot.

Merentiel responds immediately from the bench

Valencia started the match before leaving in the 55th minute. His replacement, Merentiel, scored a minute later and restored the draw.

Meanwhile, Lautaro Blanco contributed to the move that produced Boca’s second equalizer. The change gave the visitors an immediate return without guaranteeing a winning result.

However, that sequence does not establish why Valencia left the field. A substitution can reflect several considerations, and the timing alone cannot confirm an injury diagnosis. Any medical explanation requires specific information from Boca rather than assumptions.

Boca protect their position in the table

Boca finished the night with 21 points and remained in the playoff qualification places. Instituto reached 26 points at the top of Group A.

As a result, neither team left Córdoba empty handed, although both surrendered opportunities. Instituto lost two leads, while Boca missed the chance to collect three points.

Enner Valencia also added another goal to a recent run featuring his Racing hat-trick. Boca’s official account confirms that treble secured passage into the Copa Argentina semifinals.

Alert finishing keeps Boca in the contest

Both forwards delivered when the scoreline demanded a response. Valencia converted an unexpected opening, while Merentiel made his contribution immediately after entering.

However, their finishing cannot erase the two goals Instituto scored. Arruabarrena’s assessment must weigh the recovery alongside the problems that made it necessary.

Continental semifinal sharpens the next challenge

Boca next host Vasco da Gama in their Copa Sudamericana semifinal first leg. The club schedules Tuesday’s match for 21:30 in Argentina, or 19:30 in mainland Ecuador.

Therefore, the next selection will give Valencia another opportunity to compete for minutes. His involvement should follow the coach’s decision and any confirmed fitness information.

Enner Valencia left Córdoba with another goal, while Boca left with an imperfect but useful point. His quick reaction showed why an alert striker remains valuable when a match turns untidy.
