Within three minutes, Erling Haaland punished the hosts. Doku drove into the area and saw his shot blocked, but the loose ball fell to the Norwegian. His left-footed strike beat Alisson.

Doku and Cherki make the advantage count

Rather than settle for one, City immediately pushed for another goal. Doku cut inside from the left and curled a shot into the far top corner in the 68th minute. Suddenly, Liverpool needed two goals with ten men.

Then Rayan Cherki added the third in the 78th minute after combining with Joško Gvardiol. The Frenchman worked space inside the area and finished past Alisson, ending any realistic prospect of a comeback.
