Palmeiras vs Bahia ends with López sealing a home win

Flaco López needed only an early opening to put Palmeiras ahead. His header secured three points that tightened the championship’s leading positions.

Palmeiras vs Bahia finished 1-0 at Nubank Parque on Thursday, October 8, after the international break. Meanwhile, Flamengo’s draw against Santos gave Verdão an opportunity to close the gap.

Early corner gives Palmeiras the advantage

Andreas Pereira delivered the corner, and Alexander Barboza headed towards the six-yard box. López moved ahead of goalkeeper Ronaldo and nodded the ball home.

Six minutes in, his finish gave Bahia an early problem. However, Palmeiras continued looking for another rather than simply retreating behind their advantage.

João Martins led the hosts from the touchline while Abel Ferreira served a suspension. Khellven, Nicolás Acevedo, and Jean Lucas picked up yellow cards.

Meanwhile, Bahia needed to turn its possession into pressure on Carlos Miguel. Moving the ball around midfield brought little reward against Palmeiras’ defense.

López reacts first inside the area

The Flaco López header came from anticipating where Barboza’s header would land. Ronaldo hesitated, and the Argentine striker reached the ball before him.

As a result, Palmeiras gained an advantage without needing a long passing sequence. Delivery, the first aerial duel, and the finishing touch all contributed.

Palmeiras’ official pre-match figures listed López as their leading scorer across competitions. His return from Argentina duty therefore gave the hosts a scoring option.

Bahia’s possession brings little danger

Bahia held 61 percent possession during the first half but created little danger. Palmeiras produced the more threatening attacks despite spending less time on the ball.

For example, Vitor Roque and Pereira both struck the woodwork. Ronaldo also made saves that prevented the hosts from extending their lead.

Martins later explained that three centre-backs helped close spaces against Bahia’s passing game. Meanwhile, Palmeiras could attack whenever the visitors lost possession.

Palmeiras vs Bahia cuts Flamengo’s advantage

Victory lifted Palmeiras from 57 to 60 points after the 29th round. Meanwhile, Flamengo reached 61 following their 2–2 draw at Santos.

The gap therefore narrowed from three points to one on the same night. Palmeiras vs Bahia left the challengers closer without changing the identity of the leaders. Bahia remained on 46 points, slipping to sixth in the standings. Their defeat complicated a competitive fight for continental qualification.

AS México’s match coverage records the narrow scoreline and López’s early winner. However, Palmeiras’ missed opportunities explain why the final minutes still demanded concentration.

Palmeiras protects the lead after missed chances

Martins introduced Jhon Arias and Ramón Sosa after withdrawing López and Vitor Roque. Consequently, those changes gave the attack fresh legs following the international window.

Sosa struck the woodwork, and Ronaldo continued frustrating the home side. Nevertheless, Palmeiras maintained enough defensive structure to prevent Bahia finding an equalizer. Carlos Miguel also responded when the visitors threatened late in the match.

Overall, Palmeiras combined an early set piece finish with disciplined defending. Moreover, better finishing would have reduced the pressure, but their defensive work secured the result.
